This lady's story sums up why sedation dentistry is an absolute must for some dental patients.
Laura is 46 years old and hasn't been to a dentist in 10 years. The last time she had care, the doctor couldn't get her numb during a root canal and finally "gave up" during the middle of a procedure because it was so painful for her. Her efforts to find someone that could make her comfortable failed. Doctors routinely promised that "she would be completely numb" and yet she continued to have pain with her care.
In those days, patients just quit going to the dentist after that kind of experience. Why wouldn't they? Heck, I probably would do the same?
The sad part of this: How many people have died from acute dental abscesses because of this? How many have lost teeth needlessly because of this? How many people have had a stroke or heart attack because of untreated gum diseases? How many family members and co-workers had negative consequences happen to them because the patients dental health went south. Yep, dentistry doesn't just affect my patients but it affects those all around them.
This lady got lucky and happened to hear a radio commercial that I did highlighting my practice of sedation dentistry here in Seattle and that both cosmetic dentistry and dental implants could also be used with sedation dentistry if needed to replace teeth. In many cases, saving huge amounts of time.
This lady found the right office for her care....she's going to get her dental health back comfortably and safely thanks to sedation dentistry......how many others won't be so lucky?
