Will there be pain during or after an endodontic procedure?

Most endodontic procedure result in only minor discomfort during and immediately following treatment. Typically endodontic pain is correlated to the pre-operative pain the patient is experiencing.

When a patient presents for endodontic treatment having few symptoms, they will have few symptoms following treatment. Very painful abscesses will not resolve immediately following the endodontic procedure. However, the endodontic treatment will allow for the tooth to settle down over the next few days by removing the source of the discomfort.

In the vast majority of cases over the counter medication, such as ibuprofen, will alleviate the discomfort. The tooth may feel slightly different for some time following endodontic treatment, but severe pain or pressure should be alleviated within five to ten days.
