What is endodontic surgery?

The most common endodontic surgery is called apicoectomy or root end resection. When inflammation or infection persists in the bony area at the end of the root after endodontic treatment, you may need an apicoectomy.

The gum tissue near your tooth is opened up and the end of the tooth is removed and a filling is placed into the root canal from the end of the root. Local anesthetics make the procedure comfortable and most patients can return to normal activity the next day.
